"PARK OF COLOURED SAND"

Park with Coloured Sand was opened on 24th of July 2009 in Warsaw Poland on the bank of Wisla river and was accessible for everyone. In the beginning idea was to put a little sandy park among buildings. Later idea of colored sand arouse as a distinctive and interactively structured element by viewers who could walk preferably barefoot on it.
Viewers walking through the space mix the colors on the edges where colorful spots meets so slowly structure of colorful spots changed. Between yellow and blue sand greenish and between blue and red violet sand came into being.
Park was utilized for rest and just enjoying good weather.
Lower parts of these elements had been used as benches. Park was very popular among people of different ages - from kids to elderly persons. People played with forms and colours of sand builds elaborated patterns, and sculptures, which later were for example utilized as a background for photographs or just for fun. Form of a park based on simple solution enabled people to play with colour of a sand stimulated their imaginary, also was braking borders among participants who all together were playing with sand.
Project was finished on last day of October 2009 and within radius of at least one kilometer coloured sand was spread all over around the location.

The project is one of couple of projects designed for empty spots between buildings in industrial town Barrow in Furness in Umbria, UK. While the vicinity of the town is very beautiful (Lake District) and very interesting peninsula with vast areas flooded by tide with glorious and relatively unspoiled coastline town itself is rather uninteresting from the first sight with a large quantity of industrial sheds built relatively quickly since 60 ties of XIX century when First Industrial Revolution took place. Since then town has a strong shipyard where warships are still produced today. Town lives it's slow and regular cycle, there is not too much of cultural life there. In the beginning idea was to put a little sandy park among buildings because of that beautiful natural surroundings around severe industrial town.
Project can be considered also with use of a plain sand only.

PARK Z KOLOROWEGO PIASKU
